Issued on 2 June 1953 to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, this 10-cent stamp from Hong Kong is a fine example of mid-century colonial commemorative design. The engraved portrait, based on a photograph by Dorothy Wilding, shows the young queen adorned with the State Diadem. Framed by a regal oval and topped by the royal crown, the image is set against a guilloché background in black-lilac, elegantly merging British heraldic elements with fine typographic balance. The stamp was printed by De La Rue & Co. Ltd using line engraving (recess printing) on watermarked paper featuring the Multiple Crown and Script CA watermark. The stamp is perforated 13½ x 13 using a comb perforation technique, and this example is in mint never hinged (MNH) condition with intact gum. Catalogued as Michel HK 177, Scott HK 184, Yvert 175, and Stanley Gibbons 177, this commemorative issue is sought after not only for its historical relevance but also for its aesthetic refinement. Estimate "$100 – 200".
