Issued in 1913, this 3 cent stamp belongs to the early Republic of China’s engraved “Junk Issue,” portraying a fully rigged Chinese junk in motion. The stamp is printed in a blue-green tone using fine intaglio by Waterlow & Sons Ltd., and bears the “REPUBLIC OF CHINA POSTAGE” inscription at the base. It was primarily used for domestic correspondence. The paper shows no watermark and is perforated 14. This used example carries a complete circular cancel, and the reverse reveals a slight hinge mark from earlier mounting. Catalogued under Michel CN-IM 151 I, Scott CN-IM 205, Yvert et Tellier CN-IM 148, Stanley Gibbons CN-IM 271, and China Stamp Society CN-IM 243, it stands as a classic representation of early Republican symbolism.
