This 1949 Chinese tax stamp was repurposed as a definitive issue during the inflationary Gold Yuan period and displays a black surcharge of 100 Chinese dollars on a 50-dollar blue stamp. It was printed by lithography and shows multiple transportation motifs, including steam locomotives, aircraft, and ships, symbolizing modernization and industrial progress during the late Republic of China era. The original design was part of a fiscal tax stamp series, overprinted to meet emergency postal needs during hyperinflation. The stamp is perforated 12½ and was issued ungummed, as was typical for fiscal issues. This unused block of six is in mint never hinged condition, well-centered, and shows sharp impressions and uniform overprints. Cataloged as Scott IM925, Michel CN-IM 1004, Yvert CN-IM 761, Stanley Gibbons CN-IM 1146, and China Stamp Society CN-IM 1313. Historically significant for reflecting the chaotic monetary transition in post-war China. Estimate "$150 – 180"
