Issued on March 20, 1948, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of China's modern postal administration, this striking 5000-dollar stamp was part of a special set released for the Stamp Exhibition held in Shanghai. Printed in deep carmine rose by Dah Yeh Printing Co., it features a dynamic triptych design. To the left, a traditional Chinese junk (dated 1896) symbolizes the historic maritime postal routes. Above the waves, a modern aircraft represents progress and international connectivity. The right panel presents a formal portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, revered founder of the Republic of China, encircled by sheaves of grain and the legend “Postage in Commemoration of the Revolution.” Chinese and Roman inscriptions share equal prominence, reflecting both national pride and international outreach. The print was executed using lithographic methods with a fine 14-line perforation, and no gum was applied to the back as issued. Despite a relatively modest issue size of 1,250,000, this item remains scarce in fully intact mint condition, especially with crisp centering and vivid impression. It is highly sought-after among collectors of Chinese revolutionary themes and philatelic exhibitions.
