This 1942 surcharge issue from the Japanese Occupation of Central China features a 10 Chinese dollar black overprint on the green 10 cent stamp from the popular Dr. Sun Yat-sen definitive series, printed by Dah Tung Printing Co. The overprint was applied to adjust for rampant inflation during wartime, converting lower denominations into viable currency for everyday postal use in occupied territories. The original design portrays a formal portrait of Sun Yat-sen, the revered founding father of the Republic of China, framed by classical motifs symbolizing national unity and resistance. Printed via gravure and perforated 12½, this unwatermarked stamp is listed under Scott CN-IM 9N49a, Stanley Gibbons JP-CC 63a, and China Stamp Society CN-IM SN70. This mint never hinged block of 25 is exceptionally fresh with full original gum and intact perforations, making it a desirable piece for collectors of WWII-era occupation philately or Sun Yat-sen thematic issues. Estimate "$125 – 160".
