Issued in August 1941 under Japanese occupation in the region of Mengkiang, this mint never hinged sheet of 49 features the 2½ cent rose violet Martyr stamp with large character overprint specific to the Mengkiang puppet regime. Gravure printed by Commercial Press Ltd., Hong Kong, on paper with a small multiple "YU" watermark (upright), the stamp has variable perforation and was part of a propaganda-laden postal series celebrating Chinese revolutionary figures, paradoxically repurposed under occupation authority. Catalogued as Scott CN-IM 2N3, Michel JP-MG 43II, China Stamp Society CN-IM MK111, and CN-IM 2N34a, the sheet reflects both political manipulation and the utilitarian adaptation of national iconography.
