Issued in 1924 as part of the definitive series for French Algeria, these typographed stamps feature the allegorical “Type Blanc” design by Joseph Blanc and Emile Thomas. The central image depicts Justice and Commerce personified, flanked by scales and a horn of plenty, embodying the republican values of equity and prosperity. The 1 centime stamp is printed in greenish black and bears a red overprint reading “ALGERIE”, while the 2 centime version appears in a lilac-brown tone with a bold black overprint. Measuring 21 x 25 mm and perforated 14 x 13½, both stamps were produced without watermark and were part of the early efforts to distinguish Algerian issues from mainland France by means of simple text overprints. Catalogued as Michel DZ 2–3, Scott DZ 1–2, Yvert DZ 2–3, and Stanley Gibbons DZ 2–3. These mint never hinged examples offer both historical relevance and clean visual appeal for collectors of colonial philately.
