Issued by the Free State of Bavaria on September 30, 1919, this typographed definitive stamp features a black-brown overprint reading "Freistaat" on the earlier German Empire Germania series originally designed by Paul Eduard Waldraff. The denomination is 3 German reichspfennig, printed at the Reichsdruckerei in Berlin, and shows the crowned female allegory of Germania, a national symbol often associated with queenship, statehood, and feminine personification of power. The stamp measures 22 x 26 mm, bears a diamond-shaped lozenge watermark (upright), and is perforated 14 x 14¼ using a comb method. Offered here is a complete sheet of 40 mint never hinged stamps with original gum intact, fresh and well preserved. It is catalogued as Michel DE-BY 137b, Scott DE-BY 177, Yvert et Tellier DE-BY 137, Stanley Gibbons DE-BY 216, and AFA DE-BY 138. This issue reflects the transitional political state in post-imperial Germany during the early Weimar Republic and carries both historical and cultural significance. Estimate "$720 – 960"
