This vertical-format duo from French Guinea represents the 1913–1933 definitive series of Afrique Occidentale Française. Designed by Joseph de La Nézière and engraved by Jules-Jacques Puyplat, these stamps depict a traditional river crossing beneath a towering escarpment—an evocative scene that reflects the landscape and colonial infrastructure of French West Africa. The 1 centime stamp features a blue river vignette framed in violet with tribal motif borders, while the 2 centime version is rendered in brown and chestnut hues. Both were printed using typography, measure 25 x 41 mm, and are perforated 13½ x 14. Issued to meet the postal demands of a vast and diverse colony, these stamps exemplify the fusion of indigenous representation and imperial stylization typical of early 20th-century French colonial design. Catalogued as Michel FR-GU 63–64, Scott FR-GU 63–64, Yvert FR-GU 63–64, and Stanley Gibbons FR-GU 64–65.
