This 1908 TCV (Tokyo Central View) postcard was sent from the Japanese Post Office in Tangku, China, and features an elegant image of a geisha playing the Gayageum, reflecting cultural themes popular in Meiji-era postcard art. It is franked with a 2 sen light green Chrysanthemum stamp bearing a red overprint for use in China, issued on January 1, 1900. Printed without watermark and with variable perforation, the stamp belongs to Japan’s daily issue series and measures 21 x 26 mm. The design includes stylized plant motifs and the imperial chrysanthemum crest, symbolizing the Emperor. Catalogued as Michel JP OC 4, Scott JP OC 6, Yvert CN-JP 5, Stanley Gibbons JP OC 6A, and Sakura JP OC 6, the stamp is cleanly cancelled and tied to the card. The reverse shows a dated Japanese circular postmark and vertical message in kanji. This culturally rich and postal-historically significant item is in excellent visual condition.
