Issued for the French post office in Tchongking in 1908, this stamp from the Indochinese Women series features a portrait of an Annamite woman designed by Jules-Jacques Puyplat. Overprinted "TCHONGKING" in red and Chinese characters in black, it reflects the postal authority's effort to regionalize colonial issues for use within China's interior treaty ports. Printed by Imprimerie Nationale in Paris using typography, the stamp bears the original 5 centimes denomination in green on cream paper, perforated 14 x 13½. This mint never hinged example retains full gum and shows clear reverse impressions of the overprints, confirming authenticity. Catalogued as Michel FR-IC B53VI, Scott FR-TCH 37, Yvert FR-TCH 68, and SG FR-TCH 37. Estimate "$85 – 110".
