Issued in 1906 for use at German postal offices in China, this 1 cent stamp features an overprint on the 1902 German Empire’s “Germania” definitive issue (DR71), originally designed by Paul Eduard Waldraff. Printed in dark brown ochre, the stamp bears the image of the allegorical figure Germania, crowned and armored, with the bold black Gothic-style overprint “China” and “1 Cent” in Latin script, along with numerals in the upper corners. The overprint was applied in Germany specifically for use in colonial territories such as Kiautschou and treaty ports. Printed by typography, the stamp has a comb perforation of 14 x 14¼ and shows the distinctive lozenge-shaped watermark. The reverse side is clean, with full original gum and no visible hinge marks. It is catalogued under Michel DR-CHI 38 I, Scott DR-CHI 47, Yvert DR-CHI 39, and Stanley Gibbons DR-CHI 46. This issue reflects the intersection of European imperial aesthetics and colonial postal administration in East Asia during the late Qing period. Estimate "$25 – 35"
