Issued in 1906 for the French Post Office in Tchongking, this 4 centimes stamp in brown purple is part of the Type Grasset series and features an overprint reading “Tchong K'ing” alongside a Chinese denomination. Designed by Eugène Grasset and printed typographically at the Imperial Printing Office in Paris, the stamp measures 20 by 24 mm and is perforated 14 x 13½. It was produced on bluish paper and embodies themes of goods and mythology, echoing the French Republic’s allegorical style and its commercial presence in China.
