This 35 centimes black stamp was issued in 1906 by the French Post Office in Tchongking and features the Type Grasset design with a red overprint reading “Tchong K'ing” and its equivalent in Chinese. Designed by Eugène Grasset and printed using typography at the Imperial Printing Office in Paris, the stamp was produced on yellow paper, measures 20 by 24 mm, and is perforated 14 x 13½. The design portrays allegorical themes of goods and mythology, consistent with the symbolic representation of French commerce and cultural influence in Qing-era China. Catalogued as Scott TCH 26 (Michel FR-IC B44VI, Yvert FR-TCH 57, Gibbons FR-TCH 26), this specimen is mint never hinged with original gum and sharp perforations. A pristine and historically resonant example from France’s extraterritorial postal system. Estimate "$95 – 115"
