Issued in July 1904, this stamp from French Indochina is part of the “Type Grasset” definitive series and showcases the allegorical female representation of the French Republic in classical attire. Designed by Eugène Grasset and printed by the Imperial Printing Office in Paris, the motif includes symbols of authority and peace such as the fasces, sword, and olive branch. The stamp is typographed in rose on colored paper, measures 20 x 24 mm, and is perforated 14 x 13½. With no watermark, this issue reflects the strong graphic identity of French colonial presence in Southeast Asia. It is catalogued as Michel FR-IC 28, Yvert 28, Scott FR-IC 28, and Stanley Gibbons FR-IC 34. The used example bears a circular date cancel, adding postal character to this well-preserved piece.
