This 5 centimes green and red stamp was issued in 1903 for the French Post Office in Tchongking and features the red overprint “TCHONG-KING” with denomination in Chinese characters. Designed by Louis-Eugène Mouchon and printed typographically at the Imperial Printing Office in Paris, it measures 20 by 24 mm and is perforated 14 x 13½. The stamp belongs to the Navigation and Commerce series and reflects allegorical themes of sales, goods, and classical mythology, symbolizing France's trade-oriented imperial presence in treaty port China. Catalogued as Scott TCH 4 (Michel FR-IC B20V, Yvert FR-TCH 35, Gibbons FR-TCH 4), this example is mint never hinged with full original gum and excellent centering. Uniquely, it also shows a reverse offset of the overprint on the back—an extremely rare and collectible production variety that enhances its philatelic value. Estimate "$110 – 140"
