This French Indochina stamp from the “Navigation and Commerce” series, issued for the Canton (Guangzhou) French post office in China, features a red overprint “CANTON” and new denomination over a base 10 centimes stamp. Printed typographically in 1901 by the Imperial Printing Office in Paris, the stamp shows the allegorical seated figures of Commerce and Navigation, a symbol of French imperial presence and trade dominance in Asia. Measuring 20 x 24 mm, the stamp is perforated 14 x 13½ and printed in black on a pale blue background with blue "INDO-CHINE" label. The red surcharge boldly replaces the original face value, indicating its adjusted postal rate specific to the Canton office. The overprint is crisp and well-aligned, and the stamp remains in good used condition, with a light cancellation that preserves the design. These overprinted colonial issues are especially prized for their geopolitical and postal historical significance during the treaty port era. Estimate "$35 – 50"
