Issued on October 1, 1897, during the Qing Dynasty's postal modernization, this lithographed definitive stamp belongs to the iconic Dragon, Jumping Carp, and Flying Goose issue, produced by the Tsukiji Type Foundry Co. in Japan. The 2 Chinese cent denomination is printed in red-orange and measures 21 x 25 mm, with variable perforation typical of the early lithographic process. The design features a leaping carp, a mythological creature in Chinese culture symbolizing perseverance and transformation, forming a visual and thematic bridge between traditional Chinese symbolism and modern postal infrastructure. The present block of four is postally used and remains in fine condition, with legible cancellations and overall sound margins. It is catalogued as Michel CN-IM 37, Scott CN-IM 88, Yvert et Tellier CN-IM 36, Stanley Gibbons CN-IM 98, and China Stamp Society CN-IM 103. Blocks of this early issue are scarce in used condition and represent both historical and philatelic significance during China’s transitional period from the imperial to the republican postal system.
