Issued by the Empire of Japan between 1873 and 1883, this selection features four perforated revenue stamps from the Late First Issue (Shoken Inshi) for general tax duty, typically used on bills of exchange, receipts, and similar financial documents. Each stamp bears the stylized characters 印紙 (inshi) at the center, surrounded by detailed floral and chrysanthemum motifs, with clear denomination labels in sen at top and bottom. The 1 sen appears in both light brown and deep brown shades, followed by the 5 sen in red brown, and the 10 sen in dark blue. All carry red or black handstamped cancellation marks. The set is printed via typography on thin native paper without watermark, perforated approximately 11½, and each stamp measures around 23 x 27 mm. These stamps are notable for their artistic composition rooted in early Meiji period symbolism, particularly the imperial chrysanthemum crest. Condition is mixed hinged with reinforcement repairs on reverse, slight foxing and margin wear. Estimate "$240 – 320"
